Did You Know...
Castro Valley has some of the best schools in the state!

Awards our schools have received:

  • California Distinguished Schools
  • All but one with API scores of over 800; four over 900
  • California "Schools to Watch – Taking Center Stage"
  • State Academic Achievement Award – Title 1 School

What does this mean for our Community? High Quality Schools are Associated with:

  • Higher incomes and employment opportunities later in life
  • Lower truancy rates (which reduces crime, substance abuse, and gangs)
  • Higher home values

Maintaining this excellence will necessitate community involvement going forward:

  • California ranks 47th in US for state funding per student – $2,000 less than US average
  • California student-teacher ratios among the highest in US
  • $4.1 million in CVUSD cuts for 2009-2010: reading specialists, 9th grade class sizes, seventh period (CVHS), athletics, librarians, music, counselors, custodians, and transportation.
  • ANOTHER POSSIBLY $3 million or more in cuts to the CVUSD budget is expected NEXT YEAR... more programs will be at risk.

We Can Maintain Excellence .... Just $1 per day per student will raise over $3 million!

  • We value class sizes, academic excellence and extracurricular programs.
  • SOSCV! benefits all schools. Budgeting is done at the district level, limiting the ability of school PTAs and program-specific foundations to address issues such as class sizes and teacher / staff positions.

Only if You Participate.... It's Easy!

  • Sponsor a student ($365 per year - monthly installments available at www.soscv.org)
  • All contributions are 100% tax deductible.
  • Ask your employer if they make matching contributions
  • Volunteer!  Contact info@soscv.org for information.
  • Spread the word!  Visit our Facebook group page, SOSCV!
  • Continue to support your PTAs and school foundations.  SOSCV! was created to preserve the teacher and staff positions that these programs support.

The time to act is NOW.  In order to raise our goal of $3.2 million in funds every student in the district must be sponsored at $1 per day or $365 per year.  Donate or volunteer today!  For further information, see www.soscv.org or e-mail info@soscv.org.

Our Mission

Save Our Schools Castro Valley! was created "to assist in the achievement and maintenance of a superior public education system within the Castro Valley Unified School District by receiving contributions from the public and making contributions to the Castro Valley Unified School District."  Our entity will function exclusively as a conduit for tax-deductible donations to be made directly to the core programs and personnel that are being affected by the current budget cuts.
